KIng Cannons..classic punk/reggae at it's finest!!!

Have you ever seen a band and want to: A) buy their cd/merch. the first moment you can, B) punish yourself for missing their next gig and C) have their tunes stuck in your head for days after? Well it's happened before, but rarely for a band's debut. This top shelf punk/reggae band (who only caught my attention from a decent street flyer) have been around since 2007 and their outstanding website(https://www.myspace.com/kingcannons)

gives details of their trials and tribulations so far; in short they started in NZ, temporarily relocated in London and now call Melbourne home. They are hard to classify; but for me they took the best bits of my favourite bands (The Clash/101er’s, The Specials, The Ruts, Street Dogs and old school reggae) and made it truly originally. As the sound system selector would say “Way Boss Sounds Man!!” or to quote Cockney Rejects “Ruck’n’Roll”. This band are great muso’s and played as though their lives depended on it. They played many cracking streetpunk tunes with tales of their homeland and the struggles of life in general; they also pulled out some absolute reggae (not third rate new school ska, but actual punk reggae my friend!!!) gems and had the crowd in their hands from whoa to go. Track of the night was the closer “Teenage Dreams” (also the only tune I could find online) it is one of those tunes that sit smack bang in the heart of your favourite compilation tape; Classic!

King Cannons remind me of the finest bands/albums I’ve ever heard and some of the best times in my life-but the best bit is they have only started their Melbourne gigs. Go see them and enjoy one of the pacific’s best bands.
